About

I co-founded independent production company ‘Crash Productions’ in 2020 and ‘Driven’ was our second commission for Channel 4. Driven (Series 1) is a 6 part digital series with Birmingham based petrol head & rapper MIST. In each episode MIST invites one of his celebs mates down to the track, they have a natter and then go head to head in a high stakes go kart race. We were originally commissioned to make 2 pilot episodes, which got quickly turned into a 6 episode series. We were then commissioned to make a  second 6 episode series. With a skeleton team on the project I had to ensure many aspects of production were covered:

– Series Producer (Series 1)

– Self Shooting PD (Fx9 / Fx3 / A7siii)

– DOP (Series 1)

– Lighting & conducting 2 person chat show style  interviews

– Organising the shoot day, shooting 2 episodes per day with many moving parts.

– Orchestrating the multicam go-kart races including use of drones

– Building the set

– Editor & motion graphics artist across all episodes in series 1

As Driven was a chat show style show it was a lot more formatted than out first commission Bling Kings. The challenges arose in shooting 2 episodes per day with minimal crew and having to move from a multi-cam interview set up to a multi-cam go-kart set up and then back again to shoot the second episode of the day. We had 3 cameras (Fx9/Fx6) on the interviews and around 7 (Including GoPros/Insta360s rigged to the karts) for the races. With a lot of preparation the shoots went smoothly and once the format was down it was easily repetable. The shoots were full on but a lot of fun and as we progressed from the pilots I was able to get more crew in to man cameras, assist with lighting and fly drones.

I am proud of the series and it’s good to see the passion we put into the pilot enabled this to become a returning series for Channel 4. I’m very much at home producing & shooting at the same time and relish the opportunity to have the creative control and see the vision through.
